Were does your sweatshirt comes from?

Ask this question to 10 people and you will certainly get as many versions. The sweatshirt is a kind of orphan because nobody knows exactly where it comes from. Several major brands claim its paternity, such as Russel, Fruit of the Loom or Champion, but the truth, accepted by all, does not exist.

What we do know, however, is that it was born in the late 1920s. At the time, the sportsman's tracksuit consisted in a woolen sweater, warm and irritating. No wonder it was dethroned. In 1934, the "Champion" brand decided to launch a cotton and hooded model, called "Hoodie", intended for athletes for their training and warm-up. The very first collection of the Hoodie was emblazoned with the University of Michigan emblem and at the same time launched the fashion of personalized sweatshirts for university students. American football players, always very popular, used to give their Hoodie to their girlfriends, giving the garment a nice notoriety.

From explosion…

In the 1950s, it was a competitor to Champion, the Russell brand, which brought its touch of ingenuity to the product by blending 100% cotton with polyester, giving it greater resistance. It is this (r)evolution that will make the sweatshirt market explode. Then came the eighties, when the cult of the body and the "kitsch" trend revisited the product from every angle, with bright colors (even fluorescent) and increasingly eccentric designs. Hip-Hop culture, on the other hand, is not to be outdone and will drive the sweatshirt in a "street" lifestyle movement associated with the image of gangs.

to saturation…

In the 90's, the sweatshirt is then present everywhere and all the time. Its simple design and very low production cost allowed all brands to make it their own... until saturation. Becoming then too classic, the sweatshirt lost its splendor, appearing cheap and old-fashioned.

…and to resurrection.

For almost 10 years now, the sweatshirt has been back in the spotlight. Star of the haute-couture catwalks with Givenchy, Chanel, Kenzo or Versace. The darling of international celebrities and influencers. It is THE trendy garment of the moment, worn by young and old alike, everywhere and all the time.

How do I customize a sweatshirt for my company/event?

History tells us that the sweatshirt was one of the first garments to be customized, so it's very easy to apply a logo or visual to it. Depending on the desired effect, almost every part of a sweatshirt can be customized: the front (whole), the heart (more discreet), the back or the sleeves.
